Hey guys! Hope all is well! I have been thinking of the best way to spread the word about mushroom growing in the UK and trying to get more people involved and learning. I’ve decided to start teaching small groups of people how to grow mushrooms!
I originally set up a MeetUp group but this was costing me £30 a month to host! An insane amount of money for such a mediocre platform, so I’ve moved to my website with the intention of organising from here.
If you or anyone you know are interested in growing mushrooms, I will be looking to take small classes of 3 – 6 people in my ‘Lab’ and teach them about the fundamentals of mushroom growing! This will be about basic lab work, working with cultures, grain spawn development, substrate development and everything else involved. I’ll be doing this all for free.
You’re probably saying, ‘Why would you do this for free?’, the simple answer is, I like meeting like-minded people and I like growing mushrooms. If I can improve networking amongst the mycelial community whilst making friends at the same time, great! Of course, any donation to help cover the cost of materials for the sessions would be greatly appreciated but there will be no sales pitch or anything like that!
I am by no means anything close to an expert but I have been doing this for a number of years now and having successfully helped others with growing I feel it is within my capacity to help beginners expand!
If you’re keen – Drop me a message in the contact section or to mushroomarchers@gmail.com keep an eye on the calendar below for meetup dates and their availability.
Cheers!
Gareth

Hi there would love to come to one of your courses. I have never grown gourmet mushrooms before. Really keen to learn and going to be building a micro setup as we live on a boat.

Dear Gareth
I have a raised bed on my allotment – 45” x 30” – would this be suitable for growing mushrooms or must they be indoors?
I was looking online to acquire some spent mushroom compost for said allotment when I saw your
post.
Kind regards
Hi Trish!
If you were to look into a mushroom called ‘Wine caps’ they work great on big beds of woodchips! Mushrooms don’t need to be indoors but it gives greater control over environmental factors when they are! However, you can look into growing on logs and leaving them covered on a bed!
Hope this helps!
Cheers,
Gareth
