I’ve recently had the pleasure of stopping by Shoots and Spores in Wellingborough. This mushroom farm and shop is the first of its kind in Northamptonshire. The business is run by Dom who couldn’t have opened up at a harder time!
But Brexit, Covid and personal losses couldn’t dampen his spirits and Dom has realised his ambition of becoming a small business owner in the up-and-coming town. Situated at Nene Valley Court Wellingborough; the premises are two converted 20ft containers connected in the middle.
As you walk into the store there is a small reception area with a view of the fruiting chamber next to it. Behind the counter is the prep area and packaging facilities.
The business is very new >2 weeks old, so they’re still missing a few bits. The incubator room is still waiting for racking and there are a few more minor things too, but nothing that impacts the quality of his stock! He had some absolutely monstrous blue/grey oysters and some stunning pinks and goldens!
However, all-in-all Dom has done a terrific job in the most challenging social and economic time in recent history. I wish him and his family the very best of luck going forwards! There is also a video tour on YouTube which you can watch using the link.
